You'll be returning home soon then, Hikaru. I hope you've had a wonderful time in Japan. :) I'm still working on pursuing my BA in Sociology. I took my second sociology class during spring semester and fell in love with the subject all over again. As for fall semester, I'll be taking a math class (blech. Only doing it 'cause I have to) and a couple of other classes. This upcoming semester will be my last one at my local community college. In January, I'm moving out and transferring to a university that's an hour and a half away from my hometown. Moving away from my mom is going to be VERY scary for me, but I know that I need to take this step toward independence, especially if I want to progress with my education. It's time for me to move on from my small community college.
So that's so cool that you're off to Japan this year Hikaru! How long will you be studying there for?
I will be there from April through July. I leave here on March 31, and return on August 1.

This year's a big one for me work-wise - have been working on opening a specialist medical clinic with my boss since October. Plan A was to do it on our own privately but that's not sustainable right now so we are in the middle of Plan B - getting jobs at a company that will fund our clinic
Hopefully by the end of the year we will be up and running! When I joined this forum I would not have guessed I'd be in the field I'm in, and the job I used to do up until a few months ago was the dream job for me... the idea of running my own business from it was in another world altogether
That's pretty amazing! The best of luck to you!

Hikaru, I haven't been a regular in a long time either. But of course I remember you - you're half the reason I made the new years post, because I was inspired by your post on the college majors thread

This is really amazing! I really don't have time to post here like I once did, but I'm glad that I can come here when I find the time and find that the message board is still functioning, even if people are busy. I think I may make some time for this site, though.
By the way, I'm not even sure if people even remember me--it's been AGES since I was a regular. But anyway, I will be studying in Japan this spring. (Been studying the language for over three years.) When I first joined this site, it was my dream to learn the language and visit the country.
So, whatever dreams any of you may have, you have the power to make them happen.

Thank you for your kind words, APK!! They are so beautiful and uplifting, and I hope all of those same wonderful things for you as well!!
It's nice to be online pals, even if the posts are scarce at times, with people who share a common interest and care about each other as people.

Aw, thanks.
Glad I'm not the only one getting all sentimental around the new year.
I think the niceness of our fandom has something to do with
this
. I'm kind of nervous that if we get a blu-ray it will send us back up that bell-curve, like the DVD did.

Post subject: new years message for you guys
Hey, I haven't visited the board in a while, but I popped in to say I'm on some kind of New Years high. I feel very compelled to go around letting people know if they've been doing a good job - both in real life to my family and friends, but also online - because people don't cease to become real just because they're typing on a keyboard.
I read the thread about College Majors and it suddenly occurred to me how fantastic you guys are. I'm not exaggerating when I say I think you're all really freakin brave, hardworking, insanely cool and actually inspiring. Please don't casually dismiss my choice of adjectives, because I went back and forth to find words that applied here, so I do mean it.
Please don't stop dreaming big and don't be afraid of how much you want something. Everything's going to fall in place, you'll see. And not necessarily because of pixie dust cuz I don't have any cuz I used it all up by accident thinking it was cinnamon, but because you've been heading in the right direction this whole time, little by little. You might be thinking, "Thanks, but you couldn't possibly know such a thing." But I do, because you can tell a lot about somebody by the way that they write. And I don't take it for granted that everyone on here actually writes like a fully dimensional human being that's considerate of others, unlike other places in the deepest darkest levels of the interwebs
