Can't blame them honestly. The trailer is quite a big mix of good and bad and the bad parts are....really bad. Most notably Jafar being a shadow of himself at best and how Genie is just Will smith colored blue and badly CGI.
But that dislike count... I think Disney needs to rethink their business model on these live-actions. |

To me, it's not that he looks uncanny. He just...looks like Will Smith. Colored blue.
See, with Robin Williams playing the voice, yeah it sounded like him, but I believed it wasn't actually him, that it was an entirely different character. When I watched the actor playing him on Broadway or in the DCA show, I believed it was Genie. No distraction, no problem.
But this guy? This is Will Smith. A blue Will Smith. There is no overlooking or forgetting that.
I can only hope that this is just because it's a small snippet. Maybe my view will change once I'm watching the actual movie. Maybe I'll be able to see him as Genie and not as Will Smith. I will try to be optimistic, but right now, I'm very concerned. |
Also that. I just don't see the character when it's clearly just Will Smith painted blue. It baffles me why they didn't went with anything more creative that could actually make use of the CGI well.
I still want to see the movie, even if it's mostly just out of curiosity and loyalty, but I will have a hard time seeing Genie as the character, not Will smith (which I have no issue with the original version actually. I have quite the easy time to distinguish Genie from Robin Williams and vica versa). |

Uhm... I'm sorry, but doesn't look promising.
Jafar sounds so weak I needed to double check that it's him. Not a good start.
And Will Smith... no, just no. This just looks off and uncanny.
I'm officially worried. |

Me too but not in a good way.
Ehhh the CGI, the green screen, the terrible Jafar delivery. I am officially afraid. |
