Please, I hope that I'm not the only one. But has anybody in your family ever made fun of you because you like "Aladdin" so much?

For instance, a brother comes in my room and sees me typing in the message board. He goes and speaks in an Indian accent, " Hello my name is Aladdin. Would you like a squishy?"

In my head, " What a stupid a**! Aladdin is Arabian and you're in the wrong stereotype."

or my father says, " You're always writing your Aladdin stories! Aladdin this and Aladdin that! What does Aladdin ever do for you?"

In my head, " Uh, well. Rolling Eyes I can think a few."

Please share.

My parents think the whole thing is silly.

My friends think it's strange.

My co-workers act like I'm worshipping Satan when I mention Aladdin/L&S. Rolling Eyes

Nah, they don't make fun of me. I try to keep my fandom fairly covert around those who would.

The correct response to this, I believe would be, "Yes! I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine! And he shall be my Squishy!" Very Happy

At first my mother was a little iffy about it because she has this thing with teenagers watching cartoons past a certain age, but I never listen and continued to watch it. Now she pretty much accepts it and even gets me items once in a blue moon.

My dad didn't care because he is 40 years old and watches Yu-gi-oh and has more comic books than a store can hold Laughing

Pssht. There's nothing wrong with being an adult who enjoys cartoons. There's no shame in enjoying family-friendly entertainment at any age.

My parents are just like your mother. They don't think I should be doing some of the things I do, that I should become more mature. However, they make fun of me and give me a hard time about just about everything. Aladdin, my music, X-Men Evo, going on the Internet, loving Sissy and the dog so much, my knitting, my embroidery, my crocheting, my telenovelas, about what I eat and in what amounts, what I drink(I don't drink soft drinks, and I love milk, whole milk)what I talk about. As you can see, I would honestly like to move out as soon as possible, so I can do everything I like without having someone always say something bad about it.

My mom is just one of those people who think that past a certain age (like...13) you should stop watching cartoons, trick-or-treating, etc. and move on to more teenage things. I've seen the teenage things...I don't like it Laughing.
Granted, I still watch a ton of cartoons, but that does not mean it effects my maturity or thinking processes at all. That's what I was trying to get through to my mom. That yes, even though I am watching this, it is not going to skew and mold my newly developing teenage mind with nonsense. I still came out as gutterbrained and emotionally wrecked as any other teenager. I know if I jump off a 500ft tall cliff, the chances of me living when I hit the bottom are slim Laughing

At any rate, better a cartoon than an X-rated flick, right?

Some people have the stupidest notions as to what "mature" entails. ¬_¬

Yes. She doesn't want me watching cartoons, but she wouldn't let me go to the theater to watch a movie because it was too nasty.

My relatives too ! What's up with that? Aunt caught me watching the "Angry Beavers" and she said, " What are you still a kid watching cartoons? That not normal."

I told her, " I appreciate the art of such quality and the comedic storylines and the morals they story gives. . Please! I caught you watching my Aladdin movies."

I basically just said "This is me. Except it or don't" You can't alter or hide what you like because they think what you should be watching should be different. My mom sits there and watches soap operas all day. I mean, really--what's the difference? Soap operas are about as real as Bugs Bunny, the only difference is it is actual actors other than moving drawings.

Far as I can tell, soap operas are over-dramatized, over-the-top, angsty, Mary-Sue filled pieces of junk. I read the summaries in the newspaper and roll my eyes. "So and so finds out he didn't actually kill so and so. This person turns out to be that person's mother." Uh-huh... okay... right...

A lot of cartoons I know of, while being family-friendly, have very mature overtones that a lot of people overlook. Take a look at Mulan or The Incredibles, for example.

My family doesn't know... so no.

But they do know that I like Aladdin... but it's mainly a joking matter... they don't know the extent... so it's no big deal.

Same with my friends, but they accept it, and it's sorta who I am... they just don't know I come on here and write stories and stuff like that.
