Ok, we were all various ages when the Aladdin movie first came out. I, myself, was twelve. Still, I realize some others of us weren't even born yet when the movie first came out. Maybe you saw it at age six, maybe you saw it at age two. I really don't know.

Anyway, my question is, how old do you think a child ought to be before being exposed to Aladdin. It is a bit more violent than Cinderella, afterall.

I have a three-year-old niece, and I think she might be a bit young for it. Some say wait until she's twelve, but others say she should be old enough when she's five. What are y'all's opinions? If you had a child, (or maybe some of you are parents) how old would you say they had to be before watching Aladdin?

(interestingly enough, I knew a mother, who, though she loved The Little Mermaid, she had reasons for not letting her kids see it until they got older.)

I don't think the violence is that bad. It has no blood and I can only remember one scene where aladdin uses a sword. I think I was 4 years old when I saw Aladdin and it only had a positive effect on me Very Happy

I was nine or eight when I first saw it, but I was seven or eight when I saw "Beauty and the Beast" and it had some scary parts in it too.

. Nothing scared me and I thought everything was cool. A lot of the "violence" went over my head and I just thought some characters were mean.

Now, Ursula when she had all the lightning going through made me knot up a little, but if you can watch that, then Aladdin shouldn't be a problem.

i was 6 when i saw it and it was great..i think the hunchback of notre dam had the more shocking moments in it, you see the mother dieing in the begining then esmerelda almost dead,we were not used to these kind of stuff in disney movies when it came out, the heroes always win..but its still one of my fav disney films.

I saw it when it first came out so i was about 2ish and I was ok. I never cared for the part when Genie was going "'scuze me? Psh, did you rub my lamp? did you wake me up? Did you bring me here?..." thing but I never liked people yelling so that was just me Laughing

I wouldn't think there would be anything in it that would be too scary for her, but it's hard to predict with kids that age what they will be scared of. I saw Pinnocchio when I was 2 and had no problems, and IMO that's got more scary parts in it.

I'd definitely wait on TLK, though; little kids get too upset over Mufasa dying. When I went to see it the first time there were lots of kids still crying during Hakuna Matata. Razz

It came out when I was...4, I think. And it never scared me. How can you know what will scare people? What's scary to me might not be scary for someone else. That's why I think it's just stupid about how they have all that PG 13 and stuff. I mean, I went to buy my brother the Dumb and Dumber movie for his birthday, and the lady asked me for an id. I'm like, 'uh, that's a Hawaiian Punch, not beer, or anything'. Besides, Aladdin is a Disney movie, isn't it? You're supposed to use your imagination a bit. How boring it would be if it were actually real life. Like no Genie, no sorceror, no talking parrots.

The only 'negative' way the movie has affect me is that I don't think all Muslims are terrorists, and I would like to visit Agrabah, I mean, the Middle East someday.

The Aristocats upset my brother when he was younger.

Interestingly enough, he watched pretty near every episode of SG-1 we ever had, and that never ruffled him.

Apparently, having a cute animal in danger was too much for him.

Mufasa's death didn't upset me. Well, it made me sad but not hysterical but I think kids need to see TLK to teach them about death, responsibilty and the circle of life and whatnot. I saw TLK as a kid when it first came out. I just remember thinking at the opening scene that Mufasa should be eating Rafiki, not hugging him Laughing
