Disney can’t stop, won’t stop with live-action reboots, but this one sounds genuinely interesting. The studio is moving forward on plans for a live-action Aladdin prequel, Genie, which will tell the story of Aladdin’s faithful genie before he befriended the ambitious street urchin. THR reports that horror veterans Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (Freddy Vs. Jason) will write the script, with Tripp Vinson (San Andreas) set to produce.

I wasn't sure how to feel either. BETTER GET IT RIGHT.
Not to sound hoity-toity, but one thing I hope is that they actually cast middle-eastern actors, none of this Jake Gyllenhaal growing a beard insta-Arab nonsense.
Also, I'm going to school for film scoring, so I better be famous enough to get the job by the time the live-action Aladdin gets made!!! _________________

Yeah, that was the first idea that popped in to my head. I think Disney has realized some of the errors of their ways and won't be trying the whitewashing game here, but it'll be nice to give some spotlight to actual middle eastern actors. |

I'm mostly just nervous to see a Genie origin story. I wasn't too fond of what they did with Maleficent's, symbolic tropes and all. |

I don't know about this, but I'm sort of intrigued?
My first thought was to want James Monroe Iglehart to play Genie. I'm sure they're going to go for a big-budget actor, but man that'd be great.
I too hope they put Middle Eastern actors in the film, and Carpet to expand that relationship, but most of all I hope this movie tells the story of Genie's greatest former master, Al Gebraic. _________________ "This cow's been covered with flour!" |

That also makes me nervous.
SPOILERS:
Regarding Maleficent, I thought the idea of growing to regret placing a irreversible curse on a baby could have been an interesting idea, and I liked what they did with the crow.
But it was cliche that it was all over a jerk ex-boyfriend, and they completely ruined some originally great characters (looking at you, good fairies). Plus, they kind of erased a lot of her iconic bad-assery and made her the "good guy" instead of a deeper anti-hero kind of character.

YES, I was thinking the same! And at least a little nod towards Eden would be great! _________________

Meh, I like my idea better: look up user746586049/totsch3pt1 at SoundCloud for the first part of chapter 3, featuring the sassy Destane and some music!
The rest of the fic, "A Tale of Two Sorcerors: The Coup Detat" can be accessed at the writing community known as Protagonize. |
